Viewers blast Phil and Holly for “disgusting” and “patronising” gag on This Morning

It was only a joke

It’s not very often Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby anger viewers, but fans certainly weren’t impressed when watching Thursday’s This Morning.

The presenters welcomed the gorgeous Russian-born Ekaterina Lisina to talk about her breaking the world record for having the longest legs.

The 6ft 9inch gal has 52 inch legs, which meant she towered over the hosts considerably.

After the interview began, Phil suddenly said, “this isn’t working” and disappeared off set.

A moment later he returned with a small step ladder, which tickled Holly, who laughed, “Oh you came prepared.”

As Holly climbed up on the steps, Ekaterina asked “How does that feel?” to which Holly replied, “much better”.

While many appreciated the visual gag as funny, many thought the gesture was offensive.

“Seriously @thismorning what a tacky stunt with the ladders. Do you lie down on the ground when little people come on the show?” one raged.

Another said: “How patronising standing on ladders. If she was short would you be on your knees. Shame on you both. Disgusting.”

A third said: Holly and Phil climbing ladders to the talk to the lady with the longest legs in the world is disgustingly patronising.”

A fourth raged: “You know that’s how to make a girl feel better about her height by standing on steps, what a pair of [BLEEP] [BLEEP]”

But some viewers jumped to the defence of Holly and Phil.

“People saying that Holly and Phil are patronising because of the ladders… um, how about hey want to talk to her face to face.”

It wasn’t the best day for Phil who had earlier been kneed in the privates by This Morning puppy, Digby.
