Strictly winner blasted by fans after “offensive” video surfaces

Fans thought the clip was from rehearsals for the new tour

Strictly 2016 winner Ore Oduba has been criticised by fans for sharing a video many of his followers claimed was in “poor taste”.

Earlier this week, he posted a video that showed Strictly professional dancers Neil and Katya Jones performing a complicated dance routine.

The twist? Neil and Katya were both in suits that made them appear extremely fat, and are normally worn for comic effect.

He captioned the video: “Day 1 of Strictly Tour rehearsals in Birmingham going REALLY WELL” before tagging in the two dancers and the Strictly live tour’s Twitter handle.

Fans weren’t happy with the video, believing it to be cruel, and replied to Ore letting him know.

One said: “Not finding that funny. Quite offensive actually.”

Another wrote: “This is just wrong!! Poor taste”.

However, some other fans didn’t think there was anything wrong with the video and praised it for being a piece of light-hearted fun.

One said: “It’s just a laugh! Bigger things in life to worry about. (Pardon the pun!)”

And another commented: “Well I’m a fat person and I think it’s hilarious. The worlds gone mad so bloody PC!!!”

It later transpired that the video wasn’t new, and hadn’t been taken at rehearsals for the upcoming Strictly Tour, which starts in Birmingham this Friday.

On Instagram, Katya made it clear in a comment that this wouldn’t be appearing on the new tour.

It’s thought that the video of Neil and Katya dancing is from a performance at the Professional Latin Showdance Championship, where they first donned the suits in 2014.

Previously, a spokesperson for the couple defended the clip, saying: “Neil and Katya’s show-dance was never intended to offend – it was a performance for which they won second place in the Professional Latin World Showdance Championship.”

So those with tickets to the live Strictly tour don’t have anything to worry about!
