Strictly accused of being “rigged” as heartbroken viewers pour hearts out over elimination

The second celeb has gone

| Updated:

Tonight’s Strictly Come Dancing saw the second contestant eliminated from the show – and the decision has, of course, divided viewers.

Super-chef Simon Rimmer and partner Karen Clifton faced off against Reverend Richard Cole and Dianne Buswell.

On Saturday Richard had dazzled the audience with his Flash Gordon-inspired Paso Doble, while Simon got animated in a Toy Story based Quickstep.

Simon’s routine caused more than a little controversy as he was dressed as Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear while his professional partner Karen was decked out cowgirl style as the hit movie trilogy’s Jessie.

Eagle-eyed viewers were quick to express their disgust online, claiming that it was inaccurate to have these particular characters dancing together.

Did this have an impact on Simon being in the bottom two? Who knows. But he certainly gave the routine his all in the dance-off tonight. And it paid off.

In the end, Rev Cole was eliminated, leaving Sunday Brunch legend Simon to dance another week.

Judges Craig, Darcey and Bruno all agreed that Simon was technically better.

The Rev took it in his stride, celebrating the experience of coming together with other people – and congratulating the crew and make-up artists.

Some viewers were up in arms, though, one even suggesting the show is rigged (there’s always one!). One disgruntled viewer barked: “I’m gonna sue Strictly, it’s rigged.”

After Saturdays’s show, the Rev shared a great picture of some of the celebrities lined up in this weekend’s outfits.

Aww, he may not have been a great dancer, but he was clearly adored by all his fellow celebs – and we’ll miss his (holy) spirit.
