Saturday Kitchen thrown into chaos after pan fire

Donna Hay didn't seem to have the recipe for success

Saturday Kitchen was plunged into drama today when chef Donna Hay’s pan caught fire during the omelette challenge.

Host Donal Skehan invited Donna and fellow chef José Pizarro, to complete an omelette as quickly as they could and try to beat the time they’d posted the last time they appeared on the show.

While José seemed unfazed by the task, Donna was in a bit of a panic from the get-go.

“My anxiety levels are at an all time high,” she joked. “Nothing about this works for me – it’s not pretty.”

She then added just before Donal told them to start: “Have we got this? My heart is racing. Medics!”

It probably didn’t help her nerves that as soon as she threw the butter into the pan, it went up in flames.

“Ah, I’m on fire!” she shouted.

Donal helpfully pointed out the same, obvious, fact: “She’s on fire!” before rushing over to help her.

“We’ve never had an omelette on fire before,” he exclaimed as the flames became smoke and Donna was able to put her eggs in and actually cook her omelette.

As José waited, having finished his much before, Donna eventually completed the challenge. Though it’s fair to say neither chef actually produced anything edible!

Viewers at home were hysterical as events unfolded, not really caring about health and safety, just finding the whole thing really rather amusing.
