Ruth Langsford drops massive X Factor clanger on This Morning

Well, she is a Strictly girl!

We love Ruth Langsford. Eamonn’s long-suffering wife is always worth watching on This Morning and she’s currently being rather fantastic on the dance floor in Strictly Come Dancing.

In fact, Ruth rarely gets it wrong, which is why everyone was caught by surprise when she made a big mistake during an interview on This Morning.

Ruth and Eamonn were interviewing X Factor girls Holly Tandy, Grace Davies, and Rai-Elle Williams via video link as the trio get ready for their first experience of The X Factor’s live shows this weekend.

Ruth referred to Holly Tandy as ‘the youngest ever X Factor contestant’, thinking that the youngster, who auditioned for the talent show aged 15, was setting records.

However, viewers with an eye for detail were quick to correct Ruth, posting out that the show has had a younger, and very well- known, contestant in the past.

Yes, former One Direction star Liam Payne actually auditioned for the show at the tender age of just 14 years old, before going on to finish in third place behind Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle.

It was a slightly awkward mistake, considering that Liam’s partner, Cheryl, chose This Morning as the place to give her first interview since becoming a mum to baby Bear back in March.

Also, the fact that internationally- acclaimed star Liam will be performing on The X Factor’s live shows this weekend has got to make it a little cringe- worthy, too.

Liam will be performing his new solo track, Bedroom Floor, on Saturday’s first live show, while Stormy will be appearing on Sunday’s episode.

This weekend’s live shows will also feature the new-look voting format, which puts the viewers in charge.

The old format saw contestants perform on Saturday before the public voted for their favourite with the two lowest- placed acts going face to face in a  sing off on Sunday.

However, this weekend will see the viewers vote on both Saturday and Sunday night, with the act that receives the fewest votes each night going straight home.

Sharon Osbourne’s girls, including Holly, will be performing on Sunday night alongside Louis Walsh’s boys.

Holly told Ruth that while she may have made it through in the end, she didn’t think that she’d go the distance when Sharon stopped her in the middle of her song during her judges’ houses performance.

“It wasn’t the best, and I wasn’t sure if I was going to get through watching it back,” she said.

“It was just being that close to them, staring at their eyeballs. The pressure got to me. I thought that was the end, that’s why I burst into tears in the second song, I thought, ‘this is where it all went wrong.'”

Fortunately though, Holly made it through, and while she won’t be making history, or performing on the same night as Liam, but we’re sure that Ruth will remember this bit of trivia from now on!
