Richard Madeley slated for calling I’m A Celeb contestant “ugly”

He was a guest on Extra Camp

Richard Madeley caused offence when he appeared on last night’s I’m A Celebrity… Extra Camp as he said one of the camp mates was “ugly”.

The former This Morning presenter made the slur about Jack Maynard as he was interviewed by Scarlett Moffatt and Joel Dommett.

When asked if he thought there could be a jungle romance between Jack and Made In Chelsea’s Georgia Toffolo he replied: “Well, he’s a bit plain isn’t he? He’s a bit ugly.”

Joel and Scarlett were both shocked by the comment with Joel telling him: “Richard! Contain yourself, it’s only the first show!”

“He’s not my type!” Richard then joked.

Viewers were not happy about the comment, even if it may have been spoken sarcastically, and took to Twitter to slate Richard, 61, for it.

They said he should be “ashamed of himself” for being so rude on national TV.

Others thought Richard, who recently stood in for Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain, had no right to criticise someone else’s appearance given how he looked on the spin-off show.

Many were baffled by his choice of outfit – a tight white T-shirt that seemed to be a few sizes too small for him – and how he appeared to be wearing lashings of make-up and fake tan.

One asked if he was wearing “his daughter’s T-shirt” while another said he looked like “he’d spent 17 weeks in the jungle.”

Richard was on the spin-off show to discuss how he thought the celebrities had fared in their first challenges.

He caused offence again though when he said he would have felt “de-manned” and “emasculated” if Georgia had out-done him on the skyscraper plank task, like she did with Jack by striding ahead of him.

But Scarlett was quick to shoot Richard’s sexism down.

“You don’t need a penis to walk the plank!” she told him.

Good job Scarlett has joined the show this year as a presenter to keep the guests in check!
