Piers Morgan reveals he’s taking a break from Good Morning Britain

A bit of peace and quiet for two weeks on the show?

For most people, a Wednesday is somewhere between a rock and a hard place in the working week.

But for Piers Morgan, today was his Friday, as he announced on Good Morning Britain that he was off to sunnier climes.

He revealed the news as they started the show, when co-host Susanna Reid mentioned his unusually happy mood.

She said: “You’re happy today because you’re going to have a break.”

To which Piers responded: “You say a break but I’m going to interview a serial killer, so it might be a permanent break.”

With raised eyebrows from Susanna, he added: “If I do recover, I’m going to lie under a palm tree in Beverley Hills…”

Let’s hope he makes it out of his interview in one piece, then!

The 52-year-old is, of course, flying off to film the next series of Serial Killer.

The last time he left Good Morning Britain to film the series was in September, and he had Richard Madeley and Jeremy Kyle standing in for him.

This time round he’s away for two weeks, and viewers will see Susanna away for half-term week covered by Kate Garraway.

She will be joined by Jeremy Kyle from Monday to Wednesday, then Richard Madeley on Thursday and Friday.

The following week will see Susanna back in the hot seat with Kate joining her for the week.

Colin Firth… or Piers Morgan? (Credit: Sue Andrews / Flynet – SplashNews)

Although Piers headed off to America straight after the show, he still found time to tweet his followers from the airport.

It included a hilarious tweet revealing that he had been mistaken for… wait for it… COLIN FIRTH!

He joked: “To be fair, we could be twins. #firth”

When one of his followers said they’d like to know Colin’s thoughts on that, Piers replied: “He once told me he gets mistaken for me a lot, but not as much as he gets mistaken for Nick Clegg – which Colin said was ‘much worse’.”
