GMB viewers confused as Piers Morgan is replaced by TV legend on today’s show

There was a mixed reaction to the editor's absence

Good Morning Britain viewers were confused when they woke up to find Piers Morgan wasn’t presenting the show as usual today.

Instead, Susanna Reid’s co-host was former This Morning star Richard Madeley.

She said it was great to be working with the TV ‘legend’ while Piers was off for a few days.

Richard, who used to co-present with his wife Judy Finnigan, said it was a “dream come true” to work with the former Strictly star.

He told her: “We have met before. You interviewed me on another channel when my book came out and I remember thinking, ‘she’s actually listening to what I am saying and asking questions accordingly.’

“I thought, ‘I’d like to work with her one day’. Now my dream has come true!”

Richard, 61, and Judy presented This Morning together for 14 years before fronting their own evening show on Channel 4.

Nowadays they are both more likely to be writing than presenting after becoming novelists and starting their own popular book club.

There was a mixed reaction to Piers’ replacement on Twitter as viewers woke up to find he wasn’t presenting.

Some were confused and disappointed by his sudden absence, while others were delighted to see Richard back on daytime telly instead of the outspoken editor.

Susanna joked that the timing of Piers’ absence couldn’t have been better, as a women’s magazine was released today with them both on the cover and the headline, ‘TV’s Susanna: I want Piers out!’
