Paramedic called to This Morning for Phillip Schofield

There was a bit TMI on Wednesday's episode of the ITV daytime show

Phillip Schofield’s brave decision to eat the world’s hottest chip on yesterday’s This Morning very nearly took a scary turn after a PARAMEDIC was called to the studio!

The 55-year-old took on the challenge at the end of Tuesday’s show to see how long he could last without taking any water, milk or ice cream to beat the heat.

But in a shock twist, the show ran out of time before he’d finished the dare, leaving fans waiting until today to find out what happened next.

Well, at first everyone was a tad concerned as Phil was surprisingly absent from the start of Wednesday’s show, with Holly Willoughby standing alone when the title credits rolled.

She told viewers: “When you left us yesterday, Phil had done two minutes with no water, milk or ice cream and he needed to beat the seven minute record.

She said once the cameras stopped rolling “it got a whole lot worse”.

A quick video then played showing what happened after Tuesday’s show.

Clearly starting to struggle, the star’s eyes were watering and he could feel the heat starting to spread through his body.

Ever supportive, Holly teased: “This will spread to your stomach and then you know where it will go next – this is the gift that keeps on going!”

Phil replied: “I might be sick.”

Holly moved a metal bucket closer to Phil just in case the chip decided to make a re-appearance – but thankfully he kept it down.

When he passed the eight-minute mark, the studio erupted into cheers and Phil gulped down a glass of milk.

Returning to the live studio, Holly told viewers that Phillip had to “leg it” to his dressing room afterwards because, well, you know!

But thankfully he’s A-OK and lived to tell the tale!

Although Holly did joke: “His competitiveness was nearly his downfall!”

Phil then walked back onto the set to huge applause and was greeted with a hug from Holly.

“You properly scared us all a bit yesterday,” scolded Holly. “Everyone was laughing and having a giggle but I got loads of texts asking if you were okay.”

Phil said he’s totally fine now – but it was touch and go for a while.

The show’s editor was so nervous after the challenge he even called a paramedic to ensure Phillip was okay!

“I left the sofa, ran out, turned my mic off and made a run for my dressing room,” recalled Phillip. “I wasn’t actually sick but there was a knock at the dressing room door and our editor had sent a paramedic!”

Phillip said he assured the paramedic he was okay and by 3.30pm his body was back to normal.

Holly then asked the question everyone wanted to know (c’mon, you know you did!)

“Did you get revisited?” she queried. “We all want to know! You don’t have to be graphic or anything!”

Phillip replied: “Suffice to say, my bum is like a dragon’s nostril.”

What a lovely image!

Holly cheered Phil up by saying the show contacted the makers of the hot chip who said his achievement was “certainly most impressive”.

This Morning marked Phil’s success by giving him a lovely gift – a toilet seat. How appropriate!

Meanwhile, the pair also hit back at claims the challenge had been fake, after some eagle-eyed viewers noticed the chip package had been opened before Phil tucked in.

But rather than Phil switching the hot chip for a cool one off-camera, it was actually because the chip was so hot, it couldn’t be opened by bare hands!

Holly said: “Let me explain that. Because you had to wear gloves to touch the chip, you had to cut the bag open – you couldn’t pull it with gloves. So someone had to cut it open so it was easy to get out, as we’re on telly and have limited time. It was real!”

Better you than us, Phil!
