Mollie: I don’t fancy AJ

The Strictly star tries to kill off romance rumours

Sometimes it feels like Strictly Come Dancing is talked about as much for its romantic rumours as for its dancing.

From the minute that the show’s celebrity contestants are paired up with their professional partners, the rumour mill goes into overdrive predicting extra- marital affairs and new relationships quicker than a quickstep.

This year, one of the show’s most talked about couples has been Saturdays star Mollie King and her dance partner AJ Pritchard.

Not only are both Mollie, 30, and AJ, 22, single, but they also seem to get on like a house on fire and have obvious chemistry on the dancefloor.

Even AJ’s dad has said that they’re like an old married couple already!

But, before anyone rushes out to buy a new hat, listen to what Mollie herself has had to say about all of the rumours linking the pair.

“It’s inevitable with the show, there’s always romance rumours,” she said yesterday. “We have to just sort of laugh it off.”

She continued to talk about AJ, saying: “He’s lovely looking, isn’t he? But I don’t fancy him.”

CLANG! Yes, she said it. She doesn’t fancy AJ.

And if the pair are starting to struggle off the dancefloor, then maybe it started to show in their performance last night.

The duo danced the Paso Doble to Layla by Derek and the Dominoes, but bagged a score of just 22 points.

That left them in a precarious position just outside of the bottom two on the leaderboard, with Johnnie Peacock and his partner Oti Mabuse just one point below them while Ruth Langsford and Anton du Beke prop up the pile.

Mollie and AJ have already faced and survived the dreaded dance off twice so far, and Mollie revealed that they have really been putting the hours in to stay out of it again.

“I definitely feel at my fittest,” she said. “”I think at the beginning I didn’t realise it would be 12 hours a day. My fitness is at the top its ever been. I’m definitely feeling stronger all round.”

Well, whether they’re just good friends or something more, here’s hoping all of that extra training pays off!
