Not only did the finale of Call The Midwife leave us feeling absolutely bereft (and empty of tears, too), it also left a significant opening in our personal viewing schedules.
Lucky then there are plenty of new helpings of quality drama being served up in the next few months, even though there’s nothing like having a good old sniffle on a Sunday evening ahead of another week.

The Good Karma Hospital
ITV, Sundays, 9pm
There’s a power cut in the first episode of the second series set in south India as hopeful surgeon Dr Ruby Walker (Amrita Acharia) is left in charge of the night shift all by herself, meaning she has to make some difficult decisions.
Amanda Redman and Neil Morrissey also star.
In the Long Run
Sky1, Thursday March 29th, 10pm
Created by and starring Idris Elba, Walter Easmon is a family man who has made 1980s east London his home after moving from Sierra Leone.
However, when his brother turns up, Walter’s world is turned upside down in this comedy drama.
Bill Bailey also stars as feckless neighbour Bagpipes, as do Madeline Appiah and Holby City actor Jimmy Akingbola.
The City & The City
BBC Two, April, TBC
The Missing’s David Morrissey leads a superb cast as Inspector Tyador Borlú of the Extreme Crime Squad in this adaptation of China Mieville’s novel.
Set in the rundown fictional city of Beszel, this mindbending cop drama that begins with the discovery of body of a foreign student should make Marcella look like a child’s bedtime story by comparison.
Clean Break
ITV, TBA
A cleaner with a gambling addiction (played by Sheridan Smith) comes across a potential answer to her spiralling debt problems in this six-part drama series, expected to air in the next couple of months.
But when she discovers insider stock marketing information as she does her zero-hours contract job in an office in London’s Canary Wharf, what will she do with it?
Our Girl
BBC One, TBA
A new four-part mini-series of the military drama starring Michelle Keegan sees Corporal Georgie Lane and her unit heading to Nigeria, sooner rather than later this season according to Radio Times.
In a chilling echo of real life events, extremists have abducted a group of schoolgirls. But will Georgie and company be able to rescue them?
Bodyguard

Scripted by Line of Duty writer Jed Mercurio, Richard Madden plays a police protection officer and war veteran tasked with keeping the Home Secretary – played by Keeley Hawes – safe.
Unfortunately, he can’t stand the sight of her.
A Very English Scandal
BBC One, TBA
Hugh Grant is MP Jeremy Thorpe as his life and career unravel following a sex scandal. Accused of conspiring to murder his former lover after an affair with Norman Scott, Ben Whishaw also stars in this three-parter.
Written by Doctor Who and Sherlock veteran Russell T Davies, it is an adaptation of the novel by John Preston.
The Woman in White, BBC1
BBC One, TBA
This adaptation of Wilkie Collins’s 19th Century thriller about a mysterious and ghostly woman has former EastEnders actor Ben Hardy as the lead.
The five-part horror story also stars Dougray Scott, Charles Dance, Jessie Buckley, Art Malik and Joanna Scanlan.

Midsomer Murders
We’re not 100% sure when the 20th season – can you believe it has been on the box since 1997? – of everybody’s favourite murder melodrama returns to screens… but it is coming!
Neil Dudgeon will also be back – now into his seventh season after replacing John Nettles as the show’s top cop.
But does Midsomer have many residents left who haven’t been murdered or murdered someone?
