Love Island updates: Where are the past couples now, babies and weddings ahead

Did love last for any of the former contestants? Yes, yes it did!

| Updated:

We’re all currently swept up in the antics of this year’s Love Islanders – oh, ADAM! – but whatever became of the couples from previous series? How long did love last outside the villa? Are any still together? Well, yes! There’s even been a baby – and there’s soon to be a wedding! Here’s a look back at our favourites from each run…

KEM CETINAY AND AMBER DAVIES

It was kind of love at first sight when barber Kem and theatre star Amber met in the villa and it wasn’t long before their relationship had the nation captivated. However, it wasn’t all plain sailing for the pint-sized duo.

A few weeks in, the relationship grew cold as Kem lost interest in Amber and snogged silver-locked newcomer Chynna when the lads went to nearby Casa Amor.

Luckily when he returned to the main villa, he saw the error of his ways and recoupled with his amour and together they went on to win the series.

Away from the show, things looked good for the couple. They landed a guest presenting gig on Good Morning Britain and took part in the obligatory OK! spread, in which they planned for the future, with Kem gushing: “I always said my first girlfriend is someone I’m going to be put a hundred per cent into.

“I’ve waited this long to have a girlfriend so I intend on being with Amber long term. I can imagine having a family with her.”

Sadly by the December of 2017, the couple were no more. Speaking recently Kem revealed that over time they realised they weren’t compatible. “I couldn’t carry on going on the way we were,” Kem admitted.

“We were arguing over silly things and it just didn’t feel right. We slowly realised we were different in some ways and started to clash more. I think we grew apart.”

Amber also looks back at their time together with warmth and understands why they had to go their separate ways.

“Kem and I were at two different stages of our lives. He still lived with his parents and I had moved to London at 16 and I was independent,” she told Lorraine.

“I was his first girlfriend and I’d had numerous relationships. It wasn’t our fault that we didn’t work… For me I always say, it was the right person but at the completely wrong time.”

MARCEL SOMERVILLE AND GABBY ALLEN

After a bumpy start – when no one picked him in the initial recoupling – former Blazin’ Squad star Marcel soon found love with petite Liverpudlian dancer Gabby and went on to have one of the strongest and cutest relationships on the show.

Leaving the villa runners-up, the pair went from strength to strength, despite the fact Gabby received vile racist death threats from trolls who didn’t approve of her relationship with Marcel.

“In the villa you get to know each other so well,” she said about their speedy romance. “So when we came out we had that knowledge already. We have discussed getting married and getting married abroad.”

Sadly the couple never made it up the aisle as the pair split back in May of this year after it emerged that Marcel had done the dirty on Gabby.

“I made a mistake and there’s nothing I can do,” he said after their split. “I regret it and I wish I could take it back.

“Sometimes in relationships you go through periods where things ain’t really working and it’s not as smooth sailing as it appears to be.”

Gabby has remained silent so far about her heartache, but sparked rumours she was getting close to Dan Osborne when they were spotted on a yacht in Marbella, though the former TOWIE star was fast to laugh off romance rumours, tweeting: “I am speaking and laughing with a friend. But of course, a man and a woman can’t be friends in this day and age can they. Also you don’t know me, don’t know how I ‘act’.”

MONTANA BROWN AND ALEX BEATTIE

They were an unlikely couple – Montana was strong, independent and outgoing, while Alex was sensitive and incredibly shy – but the show’s millions of viewers fell in love with the pair as they quietly fell for each other over the weeks.

But no sooner were they back in the real world and word reached us that the romance had fizzled out.

“Alex and I have decided to split,” Montana revealed. “Making our relationship work on the outside has been hard. He hasn’t been the same since coming out of the villa. ”

Alex added: “Me and Montana met yesterday and have decided that it’s best to call it a day with our relationship with each other. It’s been very hard on the outside to make us work how we desired.

“I still have strong feelings towards her and will be remaining close friends and supporting her through everything.”

DOM LEVER AND JESS SHEARS

Even though they spent less time together in the Love Island than the rest of our favourite series three couples, that didn’t stop them from bonding for life.

Two months after meeting and they announced their engagement. Yes, ENGAGED!

Speaking about their whirlwind relationship, Dom said: “Before I went on Love Island I would have judged someone for proposing this quickly but spending so much time together in the villa really cemented my feelings for Jess.

“After the first week of being back in the UK I knew I was going to marry her. As far as I’m concerned when you know something is right, why wait?”

Jess said that in spite of being engaged before, Dom was Mr Right. “This relationship is different to any of the ones I’ve been in before.

“I know it sounds cheesy but Dom feels like home to me. I always used to get homesick but now I’m with Dom, I don’t. We’re perfect for each other, we don’t even argue.”

The couple ‘tied the knot’ on Good Morning Britain on Valentine’s Day in a ceremony led by showbiz correspondent Richard Arnold.

However, they say they are planning a proper wedding ceremony for later in the year.

OLIVIA ATTWOOD AND CHRIS HUGHES

Of all the couples in the villa of 2017, they were the most volatile.

While they seemed so perfectly suited and clearly got on well, they were the type of couple that who would fall out over the smallest thing – mainly because Olivia would get so irritated by her occasionally immature beau!

The couple stayed together for the duration of the series and enjoyed several months loved up in the real world, even moving in together and doing an OK! shoot or two.

But it was during the filming of a reality show Crackin’ On detailing their relationship in the real world when tensions rose between the pair, which led to their eventual split.

“Chris made the decision that he wanted to leave the relationship. He was upset about me sending texts to my ex,” Olivia said on Loose Women, admitting that she had been crying for three days.

She also said: “The way we came out of the villa and the things that went on [Chris allegedly texting Katie Price, him spotted with his arm around a girl in Sugar Hut, Olivia texting her ex] the lack of respect for each other set in quite early. I think when you lose that it’s quite difficult to pull it back. I think we both did things that ordinarily we wouldn’t do in relationships, which was a bit of a shame.”

Later Chris explained to Lorraine that there had been a breakdown in the relationship. “When it was good it was amazing, when it’s not what it can be we just ended up bickering and that wasn’t great.”

JAMIE JEWITT AND CAMILA THURLOW

Camilla shocked viewers when she rocked up to the villa because, one: she was well-spoken and intelligent; two: she was timid and prudish; three: she was an out and proud feminist.

After a few false starts with slippery Jonny Mitchell and Craig Lawson who seemed just that bit too into her, she eventually fell hook line and sinker in love with model Jamie Jewitt. And who wouldn’t – he was GORGEOUS!

The couple came third on the show and returned to the real world a couple happily in love, and have remained together ever since, albeit in private.

Although they make rare public appearances at charity events and on Instagram, they are cagey about their relationship.

In a recent interview with You magazine, Camilla asked not to talk about Jamie.

SAM GOWLAND AND GEORGIA HARRISON

No one was particularly excited when Sam and Georgia got together in the villa probably because it always felt like they’d coupled up because no one else was really interested in them.

And yet when they left the show they carried on as a couple, jetting off to Marbella for more sunshine and some photo opportunities.

However, by August the romance had fizzled out and Georgia hinted in a tweet that Sam had been a bit of a rat, writing: “Would like to confirm that myself and Sam are no longer together. Unfortunately for some men one girl isn’t always enough.”

Sam went on to join Geordie Shore and embarked on a relationship with Chloe Ferry, admitting at the time: “I’d always thought she was fit. Once I got in the house, we got talking and clicked.

“We realised we got on really, really well. And she was much fitter in person.”

NATHAN MASSEY AND CARA DELA HOYDE

The minute the glamour gal Cara walked into the villa at the start of the second season, she wasn’t interested in anyone else except Nathan – well, she also fancied male model Daniel but, beyond his dashing looks, he just didn’t have the banter Nath had.

The pair ended up winning the series and enjoying a lengthy relationship and even landed parts on TOWIE.

However, almost a year after they met, the couple announced they were splitting even though Cara was pregnant.

At the time she explained: “We said ‘we can’t be together at the moment.’ It’s not good for me, being in an environment that’s stressful where you’re arguing.

“We’d rather have time apart and then in a year or two, if it’s meant to be, we’ll get back together.”

Thankfully after the birth of their gorgeous son Freddie at the end of last year, the cute couple got back together again and have been happy ever since.

Nathan said recently how being a dad had helped him grow up. “I don’t go out anymore,” he told New! magazine.

“I just look forward to sitting in, watching films and getting a takeaway. I’ve hung up my dancing shoes, I’ve turned into a proper old mean but it’s humbled me.”

While Nathan wouldn’t confirm if he’s about to pop the question to Cara, he did tease: “She’s certainly marriage material, so watch this space.”

EMMA JANE WOODHAMS AND TERRY WALSH

This particularly eye-catching couple were pretty controversial. If you can remember that far back, Terry was originally with Malin, and they were both besotted with each other. Awwww, young love, right?

Then when Malin got kicked out of the villa, Terry pulled at our heartstrings when he said he was a one-woman man and promised that he wouldn’t go near another girl during the rest of his stay.

Of course, it was poppycock, because the minute newbie Emma-Jane sashayed into the villa, it was a sorry case of “Malin who?”

The couple were quite the talking point as they indulged in some very saucy sex play while they were in the villa and many were surprised when their relationship carried on into real life.

Eight months later, however, it was all over. Terry now keeps a low profile and Emma Jane got together with a childhood sweetheart and had his baby! Awww.

ALEX BOWEN AND OLIVIA BUCKLAND

They might not have won the series but these really were one of the success stories of series two, even if it did take them a while to couple up in the villa.

In December 2016, they announced their engagement after Alex popped the question in New York.

“I bought Olivia’s engagement ring three months after we came out of Love Island. I wanted a Rolex so Liv said: ‘If I buy you a Rolex, you’ve got to buy me an engagement ring’, as a joke.

“A few days later I was in Lakeside and spotted a ring in the style she liked. I bought it, then kept it at my mum’s before we went to New York.”

The couple plan to marry this summer – trailed by a camera crew for a TLC reality show called Alex and Olivia Said Yes – and they say they have everything planned.

However, don’t expect her to be joined by the cast of Love Island as she says they have lost touch with many of their old villa-mates. But she’s not fussed – she’s too happily in love to worry.

“I know I have found my soul mate because I know what relationships shouldn’t be like because I have been in them. Then I met Alex. It’s the way he treats me, the way we get along and the way we laugh together.  He’s my best friend and I can’t wait to be Mrs Bowen.”

SCOTT THOMAS AND KADY MCDERMOTT

Scott and Kady were one of the most popular couples in the villa, probably because Scott looked like his sexy actor brothers Adam (Emmerdale) and Ryan (Corrie).

Back in the real world, things looked good as the pair prepared to enjoy life in the public eye.

They even said they had planned their kids’ names in their OK! cover shoot interview.

But a year or so later, the couple were no more. Speaking shortly after, Scott told New magazine: “Basically we are just having a bit of time out. She’s just moved back down south and I’m just taking things slow, doing what we should have done at the beginning really. Listen, me and Kady are cool, no problems. We are in a better place than we were. Everyone’s cool, you’ve got to remember we did a show and everything was so intense and so rushed and everything. We are basically just trying to do the right thing and just slow things down a little bit, that is all.” Kady is now set to appear in the latest series of Celebs Go Dating.

SOPHIE GRADON AND TOM POWELL

Sophie’s time in the villa has been overshadowed by her tragic death on June 20, 2018. Tributes have flooded in from her co-stars, Caroline Flack and fans.

Her relationship with Tom in the villa was full of ups and downs. Sophie locked lips with Katie Salmon in the villa after Tom had left the show, however they did reunite for a while when she too returned to the UK.

RIP, Sophie.

RYKARD JENKINS AND RACHEL FENTON

We had high hopes for Rykard and Rachel but once back in the real world the relationship soon floundered.

To ensure everyone knew what was going on, Rachel kindly issued a statement stating: “Rykard and I are no longer together. We have decided to go our separate ways but I wish him all the best with his future.”

Rykard added in a separate tweet: “I don’t want to ‘tweet’ about my private life. However myself and Rachel are no longer together and haven’t been for a while now. I have nothing but good things to say about her and I’m grateful for the good times we had.”

There were later rumours of infidelity with Rykard being asked on Twitter whether or not he had cheated on Rachel, which he vehemently denied.

KATIE SALMON AND ADAM MAXWELL

Katie may have had a smooch with Rachel, but she quickly settled down with Adam in the villa.

However, their union was short-lived and no sooner were they out of the house than they were heading their separate ways. Awww.

And an award to the most insensitive break up quote must go to Adam who said: “It’s like when you’re eating a kebab after a night out and the first few bites taste good but then you realise that it really isn’t nice at all.”

HANNAH ELIZABETH AND JON CLARK

This brassy duo were as tight as Spandex in the villa as soon as they met so we had a good feeling about them. Hell, they even got engaged in the house! But once they were back in England they split and Jon ended up in TOWIE!

JESSICA HAYES AND MAX MORLEY

Beautiful Max and even more beautiful Jessica won series one but split a month after they pocketed £50k each.

Jess Tweeted: “Some things are just not meant to be.”, while Max wrote. “We gave it our best shot.” Jess is now an Instagram influencer, while Max appeared on Love Island’s filthier predecessor Ex On The Beach and is an Instagram model.

JORDAN RING AND ZOE BROWN

These two became girlfriend and boyfriend in the villa and even though they didn’t make the final of the show, we reckoned they might have a future. Er, they didn’t.

LUIS MORRISON AND CALLY JANE BEECH

These bronzed beauties had actually known each other from the real world so it came as no surprise when they hooked up on the show. And the good news is the couple have stayed together – in spite of a brief split – and have had the first Love Island baby, a daughter! Hoorah!
