Latest names in the frame for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing

The launch is close now

With the next series of Strictly only weeks away, the rumour mill has gone into overdrive.

The big question on everyone’s lips is: who’s going to be strutting their stuff on the sparkly dancefloor this year?

Well, according to reports, the ‘confirmed’ names for this edition of the BBC series include Steps star Faye Tozer, Blue singer Lee Ryan and YouTuber Joe Sugg.

But there have been a number of other names bandied about, some of which might raise a few eyebrows…

A report in The Sun claimed that BBC news reporter Kate Silverton is among those who’ve signed up for this year’s show.

According to a source: “Kate has been at the top of the producers’ wish list for more than a decade.

“But she has always put her career and family above everything. Now she’s polishing off her dancing shoes and can’t wait to get started.”

Pussycat Dolls singer Ashley Roberts is another who, it’s claimed, has put her name on the dotted line.

The US star is no stranger to British TV, having already appeared on I’m A Celebrity in 2012, and judged Dancing On Ice in 2013.

And a source told the Mirror: “Ashley is already a hot favourite because of her dance experience with the Dolls as well as having trained as a dancer.

“Although she might not have done much ballroom or Latin, being able to pick up choreography quickly as well as her rhythm is sure to give her an edge.”

Other names who’ve been strongly linked to this year’s Strictly include radio DJ Vick Hope and This Morning’s resident medic Dr Ranj Singh.

BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker got fans all excited when he appeared to announce on Twitter that he would be competing.

He wrote: “Now then… the rumours are not true. I am 100% doing @bbcstrictly this year. Too busy with life @BBCBreakfast, Football Focus & a new quiz on @BBCOnestarting next month called #ChaseTheCase.”

Of course, he meant to say ‘I am 100% NOT doing it’ – as he later pointed out.

As for the other rumours… well, let’s just say we’d be surprised if those stars turned up on the show.

Back in March, TV funnyman Les Dennis said on This Morning: “I would love to do [Strictly]. Yes please. Ice skating? Well, maybe – that’s more scary. But who knows.” But that doesn’t mean Strictly chiefs will take him up on his suggestion.

And it’s even been claimed that Liam Gallagher has shown an interest in throwing some shapes on the dancefloor. Now, THAT’S something we’d love to see.
