Kara Tointon has been reminiscing about her EastEnders character – and has even given her fans a glimmer of hope that her popular character might return one day.
Kara played Dawn Swann for four years, between 2005 and 2009 – and fans LOVED her.
And rather than being carted off in a body bag like most EastEnders cast members when they leave, the door was left very much open for the character to return.
In quotes printed in Closer magazine, actress Kara has expressed her relief that character Dawn is still out there somewhere.

She said: “Working on a soap, you get attached to characters that you play over a long period of time – so I really understand why actress Samantha Womack spoke out last week to say she was saddened that her EastEnders character, Ronnie Mitchell, was killed off.
“I’m lucky – the producers told me I was leaving, but I wasn’t killed off! I’d have been gutted if I’d found out my character Dawn had died!”
Kara, who has starred in Mr Selfridge and was crowned the winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2013, added: “A lot of Albert Square residents have left in a coffin, but Dawn’s final scene showed her drifting out of Walford on a barge into the sunset with her boyfriend, Gary Hobbs.
“It was all very sweet. In fact, she might still be out there on that boat, just sailing around!”
And she could sail back one day… Kara has always refused to rule out a return, instead insisting: “Never say never”.

Samantha Womack recently confessed that she was upset when her character Ronnie Mitchell was killed off after nine years in the BBC soap.
She told OK! magazine: “The Mitchell family are such a huge part of that show’s culture – Peggy had gone and then the two Mitchell sisters. It’s a shame to rip out the roots of such a long-serving family.
“I understand they have to regenerate and constantly recast, but my complaint was when you have two characters who are embedded within the fabric of that community, by killing them completely you’re removing them from any future producer. It’s short-sighted.”
