Since then, David has suffered in silence, going to huge lengths to keep his secret, including breaking up with his girlfriend Shona Ramsey who could clearly see something was wrong with him.

Fans have been pleading with David to either tell someone or go to the police and, according to Jack, it will happen. At some point.

In an interview with Radio Times the actor revealed David’s storyline would carry on through the summer months.

But he also said that he will eventually speak up.

Jack said: “What I can say is that the story does continue right through the summer and we will show the effects on both David and those around him once they do find out.

“Shona will be particularly determined to get justice.”

Does this mean David and Shona get back together? Please let it happen.

In another interview with Metro.co.uk Jack revealed that there was still a lot of darkness to come for David.

He said: “He is being deeply affected by this in what I am filming at the moment which is about six weeks ahead.

“He is still very much in a dark place – and his journey will continue in different ways right through the summer.

“Beyond that – hopefully I’ll still have a contract!”

Jack, who has made the long-list for Best Actor at the British Soap Awards later this spring, also spoke of how pleased he is of the reaction he’s had to the rape storyline.

He told Radio Times: “I saw a group of lads in Manchester’s Northern Quarter the other day. They’d obviously been on the beer, so when I heard one of them say, ‘no way, it’s David Platt’, I was getting ready for him to take the piss.

“But then he shouted across the road, ‘Don’t suffer in silence! You need to tell someone! Go to the police!’ He was deadly serious. I told him that I would and he shouted back, ‘I love you!’ I enjoyed that, it was actually really heartening.”

The storyline got a lot of criticism before it even started with some fans saying they would boycott the soap.
