It has been revealed that Happy Valley veteran Siobhan Finneran has been cast in Cold Feet ahead of its return next month.

The actress, who has also starred in Benidorm, said she has “always been a fan” of the ITV comedy series.

Siobhan will be playing a character called Nikki Kirkbright in the Cheshire-based series – due to begin next month – and will be immediately thrust into a gripping storyline.

The glamorous housewife will forge a romantic tryst with posh David (Robert Bathurst), who’s now a personal financier.

David is back on the market after his ex-wife Karen turned down his proposal in the last series.

But things aren’t what they seem, and it turns out Nikki is using her unsuspecting lover as a means to escape from her husband, George (Hustle’s Robert Glenister).

Siobhan admits that she can’t wait to get started in her challenging new role.

“I’m incredibly happy to be involved in Cold Feet, as I’ve always been a fan,” said the Lancashire-born actress, who was last seen in ITV drama The Loch.

“It’s an absolute joy to be part of such an iconic series. Working with Robert and the rest of the cast has been a great pleasure.”

And Cold Feet fans were equally chuffed about the show’s new acquisition, taking to Twitter to express their delight.

“I love Siobhan – she was amazing in Happy Valley!! Where do I look for this?” wrote one viewer.

Another added: “Anything Siobhan is in will be great TV!!! Yay!”

And a third tweeted: “Just when you thought the show couldn’t get better! Fab news x.”

But one fan clearly missed Siobhan in her old role, commenting: “Please Siobhan, go back on Benidorm! I miss you and the Garvey family!”

We’re sure she’ll be equally good in her new job.
