Fuming Corrie fans are taking serious action over Anna Windass verdict

Coronation Street fans are getting heavily involved in the Anna Windass drama after the cafe worker was wrongly found guilty of pushing Seb Fraknlin off a ladder during last night’s double bill.

Anna was sent down for five years after being found guilty of GBH in a unanimous decision by the jury.

It was all going so well when Seb himself took to the stand and said that Anna hadn’t pushed him, but Pat Phelan had manipulated him into saying she did.

But when Eileen Grimshaw saw CCTV in the cab office of Anna’s son Gary and Tim Metcalfe pressuring Seb, it was enough to win the prosecution their case.

Poor Anna was last seen having her cell hatch slammed closed as Phelan enjoyed some television at home with his wife.

Loyal Corrie fans were NOT happy with the way Anna was treated and are even predicting a Free Anna campaign, much like the one started back in 1998 when Deirdre Rachid was wrongly imprisoned.

There’s already a petition on Change.org called Weatherfield One Mark 2, which is calling for her release.

Elsewhere, disgruntled viewers have said they will vote with their feet – well their remotes – and boycott the soap until Anna is released and Phelan is behind bars.

You can’t say Corrie fans don’t have passion.

“@itvcorrie a fan of 30 years and I loved the show for the  humour and light hearted watching. This is not real life, the story lines and characters are killing the show . Can we go back to BP (before Phelan). Please listen to the fans or I will be switching off soon  #corrie,” tweeted one cross fan.

Another said: “Well #Corrie how to [bleep] up a half decent story…drag it out for months and months on end. Killed any possible suspense or interest. Switching off @Corrir for good after 50 years viewing.”

A third commented: “Enough already! The police should’ve interviewed numpty Rosie. I’m switching off.”

Anna was sent down after being framed by evil builder Pat Phelan for pushing her daughter’s boyfriend off his ladder while he was doing a window cleaning job.

Phelan planted evidence and coerced Seb into believing Anna had tried to kill him.

Unfortunately for Anna, several witnesses that day saw her violently slap Seb across the face after he called her a chargrilled fishwife in Roy’s Rolls.

The courtroom scenes were the final ones for actress Debbie Rush who bows out from her role as Anna after ten years.

Coronation Street continues tomorrow at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
