Former EastEnders actress Samantha Womack has revealed how she feels about not being able to return to the BBC One soap.

Sam, who played Ronnie Mitchell, was written out last year along with Rita Simons who played her on-screen sister, Roxy.
In a controversial move by then new-boss Sean O’Connor, the popular Mitchell sisters were seen drowning in a swimming pool on Ronnie’s wedding day to Jack Branning.
The sisters were at the hotel where the wedding had taken place and a drunk Roxy jumped into the pool – but failed to come back to the surface.
Her panicked sister jumped in after her to rescue her, but was pulled down by the weight of her heavy wedding gown.
Viewers were left stunned that the fan favourites had been killed off – with many taking to social media to complain.
Many started coming up with theories of how Ronnie and Roxy could be brought back somehow, including faking their own deaths and running away to Ibiza and even it all being Phil Mitchell’s dream.
But even Sam acknowledged that – considering we’d seen Ronnie’s body – it was highly unlikely.
Speaking exclusively to OK! magazine, Sam said: “I’d have loved to go back at some point. The Mitchell family are such a huge part of that show’s culture – Peggy had gone and then the two Mitchell sisters. It’s a shame to rip out the roots of such a long-serving family.”
She went on to say that since leaving the show, it’s felt like she’s had a rebirth, but added: “I hate the idea that I can’t go back – unless I come back as some weird Australian twin sister!
“I understand they have to regenerate and constantly recast, but my complaint was when you have two characters who are embedded within the fabric of that community, by killing them completely you’re removing them from any future producer. It’s short-sighted.”

Sean O’Connor explained his reasons for killing the sisters at the time, speaking to Metro.co.uk he said: “[Ronnie and Roxy] were not the sort of characters that would leave in the back of a taxi.
“We wanted to give them an operatic ending.”
