Former EastEnders star ‘incredibly excited’ to land new role on Casualty

Heading from the Queen Vic to A&E

Former EastEnders actress Maddy Hill – who played Mick and Linda Carter’s daughter Nancy – has revealed she’s landed a new part.

Maddy will be back on BBC One in their medical drama Casualty, where she will play a paramedic called Ruby.

She said: “I’m incredibly excited to be working with the BBC again on Casualty. It’s such a well-loved and respected show and the role of Ruby is like no one I’ve ever played before.”

Maddy played Nancy for two years from 2014, where her character worked at the Queen Vic to support her family after they stopped her marrying her teenage sweetheart.

She was an instant hit with viewers and gained Best Newcomer Awards at both the 2014 British Soap Awards and 2015 National Television Awards.

Her storylines included living with epilepsy and accidentally injuring her baby brother, Ollie, during a fight with her older brother.

She left in 2016 along with boyfriend Tamwar Masood (Himesh Patel) after the pair decided to go travelling.

It was Maddy’s decision to leave the soap as she wanted to try her hand at other roles, including doing theatre work.

She said of her departure from Albert Square: “It was time for Nancy to take a break from her family and me from EastEnders after having a wonderful time working on the show.

“I was surrounded by a terrific team both on and off camera and I shall miss seeing them all on a daily basis, especially the fabulous Carter family.”

The door has been left open for Nancy to return to the now somewhat depleted Carter family, as their son Lee (played by Danny-Boy Hatchard) has since been written out of the soap, while Johnny (played by Ted Reilly) is also leaving shortly.

Th actor, who was recast in the role of Johnny (he was played by Sam Strike during Maddy’s time in Albert Square) has already filmed his last scenes so viewers will see his exit very soon.

Casualty will be Maddy’s first major TV role since leaving EastEnders. In the past year, she’s been treading the boards appearing at Shakepeare’s Globe theatre. She’s certainly varying her work since leaving Nancy behind and we wish her all the best in her new venture on Casualty.
