Fans FUMING after Corrie is cancelled for the footy

And it's only a friendly!

We don’t know about you, but we love nothing better after a hard week of work than kicking back to watch the Coronation Street double bill on a Friday evening.

Sadly, there will be kicking of a different kind this Friday, as it’s been announced that ITV will be showing the FOOTBALL instead of the popular soap.

OK, so it’s those old foes England and Germany who’ll be battling it out at Wembley – but it’s only a FRIENDLY match.

And fans of the Weatherfield show are furious about the change in schedule, airing their grievances on social media (we’re with you, guys!).

England qualified for next summer’s World Cup in Russia with relative ease, finishing top of their group by eight points.

So this match against World Cup holders Germany will provide a useful test for Gareth Southgate’s men with the competition proper only seven months away.

But that’s not the point – Friday night is Corrie night, and there are lots of juicy things happening on the soap at the moment.

For one thing, Aidan is angry with Johnny for deciding to emigrate to Spain with the insurance money, and is accusing Jenny of influencing his old man.

And then there are the revelations spewing from Seb’s mouth now that he’s moved in with Sally.

But alas, after tonight’s episode, we’ll have to wait until next week to see how those – and other – threads pan out. And it’s left fans seething.

One viewer tweeted: “@itvcorrie Am actually very sad ’cause Corrie’s only on twice [this week] because of football #Corrie.”

Another fumed: “Coronation Street being moved for football #ThingsThatLeaveBritainReeling.”

And a third scoffed: “No way that a couple of episodes @emmerdale and @itvcorrie been put off because of the football next week.”

On a separate note, yesterday Metro reported that Corrie boss Kate Oates had teased some upcoming storylines during an interview at the Inside Soap Awards.

Over the next few months, it sounds like there could be a major storyline regarding Billy Mayhew’s past, as well as new twists in the Pat Phelan saga and a “hard-hitting” plot for the new year.

Let’s just hope football doesn’t get in the way…
