Fans call Mick Carter ‘the new Gary Cooper’ after High Noon-style showdown

Walford's not big enough for both of them

Mick Carter has been compared to a hero of the silver screen after his High Noon-style showdown in dramatic EastEnders scenes.

In last night’s instalment of the BBC soap, viewers saw Mick perfect his steely glare and ‘don’t give me any trouble’ stance as he returned to The Queen Vic for a face-off with evil blackmailer Aidan.

And some fans noticed a striking resemblance to High Noon actor Gary Cooper – the strong, silent hero of films from the golden era of Hollywood.

Scenes between Mick and Aidan were compared to an old-school Western, as Mick strode through the Square like a man on a mission to confront Aidan.

Mick and Aidan had agreed to meet in the pub but, scared witless by the intimating gangster and his thugs, the family thought it would end badly and decided to flee Walford.

It didn’t help that their friends had deserted them one by one in the lead up to the showdown.

However, at the last minute, Mick did a U-turn and decided to return to the pub, lying to Linda that he’d left his wallet on the bar.

And his walk back to the pub felt like the longest walk in soap history!

Once there, Mick grabbed a bottle of whisky and a glass and watched the clock tick down to 8pm.

He simply muttered: “Come on then.”

Fans thought the scenes were like something out of a Gary Cooper movie, with one announcing: “#eastenders mick doing a Gary cooper….everyone bailing on him..”

Another said: “Danny Dyer is the new Gary Cooper in the High Noon of the East End #EastEnders.”

One Twitter fan nailed it, when he said: “That was quite the powerful walk to the Vic. Yep the Carters are solidified as family numero uno in #EastEnders now. It’s like a Wild West saloon shootout. This is the payoff the show has needed in years.”

Friday night’s episode sees the pair come to a head… But who will come out on top?
