Fans blast Love Island “Princess Di car crash” joke

ITV2 reality show narrator Iain Stirling came under fire for quip

Furious viewers were left shocked when Love Island narrator Iain Stirling made an joke apparently about Princess Diana’s death in a  road accident.

On last night’s episode, EastEnder Danny Dyer’s daughter Dani was sharing her feelings about partner Jack and likened her love life to a “car crash”.

She said in the beach hut: “It always happens, doesn’t it. You’ve started getting on the way to your fairytale and then there’s a massive car crash and that’s it.

“I don’t want that to happen, I want to stay in my car and head off into the sunset.”

Voiceover Iain then quipped: “That’s my favourite fairytale — The Princess and the Car Crash.”

Fans immediately took to Twitter to share their outrage, describing the one-liner as “distasteful”.

One posted: “Can’t believe the narrator just said that on @LoveIsland.”

Another wrote: “Anyone else wondering how Ian got away with his ‘Princess & the car crash’ joke??? I’m kinda mad about it.”

A third tweeted: “The Princess and The Car Crash? How disrespectful. RIP England’s Rose.”

A handful of other viewers, however, saw the funny side.

Iain, who is dating fellow ITV2 presenter Laura Whitmore, has been a fans’ favourite on Love Island, which he has been narrating since its reincarnation in 2015.
