Anne Hegerty won over her campmates and the viewing public when she showed that she wasn’t as tough as her on screen alter ego The Governess during her time in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here.

Not only has her stint scoffing jungle critter earned her a whole new army of fans, but she has been inundated with offers of work, leaving The Chase fans fearing she will quit the show.

However, the 60-year-old insists she won’t ditch her fellow Chasers just yet. She told Metro.co.uk: “Oh, I cannot imagine ever leaving The Chase. Everyone – my agents, the producers – everyone knows The Chase comes first.

“One never wants to be the person who left a successful TV show because they thought they had a better offer, and were never heard of again!”

The news will please her The Chase co-stars who rallied around her during her difficult time in the Outback. But she did admit she chose to head to the jungle to increase her public profile and cash the cheque for taking part.

Anne, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, revealed: “A lot of people seem to think I went on in order to raise awareness about autism. I’m afraid my intentions weren’t nearly so elevated – I did it for money and fame!

“It’s brilliant if it’s told people a bit more about what autism is like and what autistic people are like, but I do wonder if, when people are saying, ‘She did so amazingly!’ they really mean something like, ‘She did so amazingly, considering she’s autistic!’ because I don’t want pity and I don’t want to find The Governess is somehow less intimidating because she’s been seen screaming and weeping.”

The expert quizzer, who revealed she lost a stone in weight during her time in camp, admitted she didn’t enjoy seeing herself on camera – especially her new haircut.

She said: “I decided to have my hair cut very short before going in so it would be easier to brush the cockroaches out, but I do think I rather overdid it.

“The Mia Farrow look doesn’t quite work on me!”

When it comes to her fellow campmates though, Anne has nothing but praise. She revealed: “John wants to set up a WhatsApp group, so we’re all patiently waiting for him to get out of there in order to start one. I’m very fond of them all, but I guess it’s no secret that my favourite is Nick.”
