Emmerdale’s Charity Dingle wins hearts with advice to Tracy Metcalfe

She's our she-ro!

| Updated:

Charity Dingle has been giving heartbroken Tracy Metcalfe some words of wisdom in Emmerdale – and the soap’s fans have fallen in love with her for it.

In scenes shown last night (Thursday 8 March), significantly on International Women’s Day, Charity tried to help a tear-streaked Tracy by giving her some home-truths about husband David.

The heart-to-heart followed dramatic scenes between Tracy and David, who has been unable to forgive and forget Tracy’s prostitute past.

After finding evidence that David was ashamed of her, Tracy proceeded to get drunk and ruin a posh dinner party by declaring in front of the shocked guests that she used to be a prostitute.

Devastated after an argument with her humiliated husband, a tearful Tracy needed a cuddle and some advice.

But we’re not sure she was quite expecting Charity’s no-nonsense approach!

Furious that David had made Tracy feel small, Charity blasted: “He knew about the phone lines, he knew about the film. There are exceptions but generally speaking women who have tons of choices don’t choose to sit at the other end of a phone hyperventilating while some stranger gets his rocks off.”

When Tracy defends David, calling him “innocent”, Charity blasts: “No babe, he’s a grown up and he doesn’t get to pretend he’s not part of the same world as us.”

She continued: “Babe, listen to me. You are a kind, clever and beautiful young woman. And David is unbelievably lucky to have you by his side. If you had to do some things that you didn’t want to do, while he was pricing up groceries, the only reaction that is acceptable from him is support. That and maybe a really expensive present.

“The people that you give your love to, it’s their job to make your burden a bit lighter and, you know what, if they don’t, maybe they aren’t worth it.”

Go Charity!

Fans united in their love of Charity for her empowering speech. And all agreed with her girl power pep-talk.

One said: “That Charity scene is gonna be my scene of the week #Emmerdale.”

Another said: “That scene between Vanessa, Tracy and Charity was so beautiful and yes to women supporting each other and not judging them.”

While one was moved to tears herself, tweeting: “Charity I love you. That speech is relevant to everyone. Made me properly tear up.”

In recent scenes, we’ve seen Tracy’s past come back to haunt her as a former client tried to blackmail her.

Since David found out the truth, he’s found it impossible to come to terms with the news.

After the scene at the dinner party and the argument that followed, Tracy told David to “get out”.

She said: “I’ve seen something in you that I really don’t like. And I don’t think I can ever un-see it. Just go.”

Is this the end for David and Tracy?
