Emmerdale star found out details about exit storyline by text

What a way to find out!

Emmerdale fans were weeping this week as Finn Barton was shot by his own mother, Emma, and died in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The unhinged nurse then went on to topple over a viaduct and die herself, but whether she jumped or was pushed remains to be seen.

But back to Finn.

Actor Joe Gill has now revealed that although he told show boss Iain Macleod back in February he wanted to leave, he only found out the exact nature of his exit storyline when he got a text from the show’s production team.

Speaking at a recent press day, he told OK! magazine: “I got a text off the design crew to know my exact height.

“I told them 5ft 10in and thought: ‘What’s that for?’ and then it all became obvious.

“I was told not to go in the Barton house set in case there was evidence of Finn’s death but I went in there to be faced with my coffin.

“It was bizarre. In no other job would you ever get to see your own coffin.”

Fans of the show were devastated to see Finn die after accidentally being shot. Although we knew death was coming in the huge week, most thought it would only be Emma who ended up meeting her maker.

Talking about his decision to leave, Joe said:  “I’ve loved every second of it, but personally it’s the right time to move on.

“They had enough time to write the exit, I’m proud to have been here and that they character goes so dramatically.

“It draws a line under it, it’s therapeutic as the slate has been completely wiped as opposed to him nipping off. It’s final.

“It makes it even more dramatic he’s always tried to see the good in everyone, including his murderous mother, so even more tragic he’s gone in this way.”
