Emmerdale SPOILER: Vanessa turns to an unlikely ally over her sexuality

This is an unexpected turn of events

Robert Sugden reminds us that there’s more to him than just devious plots to take over Home Farm next week when he steps in to help struggling Vanessa Woodfield come to terms with her sexuality.

We’ve seen the vet all over the place after her passionate romp with Charity Dingle recently, even trying to get busy with Daz Spencer in a bid to prove she’s straight.

She’s left feeling humiliated in upcoming episodes when she discovers that she’s the talk of the town – well, village.

Luckily, Vanessa has her good friend, Rhona Goskirk, and unlikely new BFF Robert on hand to help her through this difficult time.

Robert actually knows better than anyone what it’s like to struggle with coming out and accepting yourself for who you are – even when everyone is gossiping about you.

He encourages her to go out and experiment a bit, live a little, before putting a label on herself. And his advice definitely gives Ness some food for thought.

It also gives Vanessa’s half-sis, Tracy Metcalfe, an idea about setting her up with her accountant – a woman named Amanda.

While Vanessa finds Amanda very attractive, the date is still a disaster when Ness struggles to find the conversation anything but interesting.

Well, she is an accountant…

Vanessa starts to wonder if the dating scene is really for her, but best mate Rhona is on hand to remind her that she needs to put herself out there a bit more before she swears off for life.

So does all this mean that Vanessa is coming to terms with her sexuality?

And will there finally be some romance on the cards for her?

Michelle Hardwick, who plays the confused vet, told Soaplife magazine, about her character’s struggle and hinted there may be more to come for Vanessa and Charity.

She said: “Vanessa is confused about her sexuality.

“It does continue for a bit and Vanessa is quite feisty – she could be the person to put Charity in her place.”
