Emmerdale SPOILER: Adam Barton to take the blame for killing Emma

But he's innocent!

Adam Barton is to be arrested for the murder of his Auntie Emma in tonight’s Emmerdale, just 24 hours after his mum, Moira, confessed to the crime, reports the Sun Online.

According to the site, Adam – played by Adam Thomas – is set to be collared for the crime and eventually go down for it.

This turn of events would make sense seeing as Adam T has already left the ITV soap.

A source said: “The whodunnit surrounding Emma’s death has been going on for weeks and months but just as viewers think they’ve come to a conclusion the rug will be pulled out from under them.”

Last night’s dramatic double-bill saw Moira tearfully confess to Cain Dingle that she pushed Emma off the viaduct, after initially trying to help her get down safely.

But Emma, who didn’t want to commit suicide because it’s a sin in her Catholic religion, cruelly taunted Moira about her dead daughter Holly making the mum-of-four flip out and send Emma plummeting to her death.

Even though Moira has confessed to Cain, police think that Adam is their man after finding his tyre tracks at the murder scene.

As viewers know, it was actually Emma’s son, Ross, who was driving Adam’s car at the time.

Furious after finding Emma’s letter – which confessed to killing her son, Finn, and husband, James, – Ross drove her up to the top of the viaduct and told her to do the decent thing, before leaving her up there.

Adam has been a prime suspect for the police, even being arrested for murder on the day Emma died, but then released without charge.

But the Emmerdale police are set on nailing him for the murder.

The source continued: “This is how Adam will leave the soap to pursue other projects as he goes down for the crime.”

We can’t imagine Moira letting her beloved son take the blame for her crime, so we expect there to be a few more twists in the tale before Adam leaves our screens for good.

Adam Thomas announced he was leaving Emmerdale earlier this year to pursue other projects, but he promised that his lovable character wouldn’t be killed off.

He’s stepping down from the role after eight years and recently revealed that leaving the soap left him crying like a baby.

“I’ve been on the show for eight years and I’ve made some great friends there so it was very emotional,” he admitted during an interview with OK! magazine.
