Emmerdale plans Christmas reunion for two unlikely former lovers

Will she forgive and forget?

| Updated:

Emmerdale has another twist up its sleeve for us as Rebecca White returns to the village and makes it clear she regrets shutting Robert out of her and their son, Seb’s, life.

Fans last saw Rebecca last week when she fled the village with the baby, telling Robert that he isn’t Seb’s father after all.

We wondered if we’d maybe seen the last of Rebecca, but it’s been confirmed that she’ll head back to the village over the festive period to spend it with her family.

Chrissie and Lawrence join forces and hatch a plan to get Rebecca back into Home Farm for the festivities without Robert ever finding out.

But on Boxing Day, viewers will see Rebecca struck with remorse as she spots a huge pile of presents that Robert has bought for their baby.

While Chrissie tells Bex to stay strong and bin the gifts, Lawrence reminds her that she has her own mind.

Rebecca clearly caves as later, Robert breaks down in the village when he reads a thank you card for Seb’s presents and is comforted by Diane.

Unseen, Rebecca watches Robert and is touched by his emotional outburst.

But is it enough for her to make a U-turn on letting him be part of Seb’s life?

Emmerdale have already confirmed it’s going to be a Christmas to remember for Robert, with the Christmas Day episode focusing on him.

Iain McLeod, who is Emmerdale’s executive producer, promised fans would see the weirdest episode of the ITV soap yet, and he wasn’t lying.

Robert wakes up on Christmas morning in an altered reality and then keeps reliving the day over and over again – like Groundhog Day.

Iain said of the episode: “Think Groundhog Day, and A Christmas Carol with a little nod to the film Don’t Look Now thrown in and that’s been our approach to the Christmas Day episode.

“It’s been amazing to produce as we’re constantly thinking of ways to push the boundaries of storytelling and keep Emmerdale fresh and our loyal viewers on their toes!

“We’ve all acknowledged the risks of filming such a stand alone episode, but we sincerely hope the audience will appreciate we’ve tried to do something a bit different in the same way we devoted an episode to Ashley’s story last Christmas.”

He added: “Apart from the scary aspect to Robert’s situation, the episode is also heartfelt and hilarious in parts.”
