Emmerdale actor teases return to the soap

Soap veteran has revealed there are reasons to go back

| Updated:

He only departed our screens last week, but actor John McArdle has said there’s a possibility his character Ronnie Hale could return to Emmerdale.

Ronnie was in a relationship with Lawrence White, but left him after discovering all the lies and secrets he’d been keeping.

The recent drama for the White family saw dark revelations about Lawrence and his involvement in the death of Chrissie’s real father, John Richards.

When John’s brother Tim turned up and appeared to start a romance with Chrissie, Lawrence’s grandson Lachlan took matters into his own hands and kidnapped Tim.

When the truth about everything came out, Ronnie was disgusted and told Lawrence he couldn’t be with him any more, putting paid to any plans the pair had to start a new life together in St Ives.

After his departure, Lawrence suffered an aneurysm and was rushed to hospital, but the health crisis wasn’t enough to make Ronnie return.

However, speaking about his exit to Inside Soap, John has admitted there are other reasons he might show his face again in the Dales.

“Ronnie has a lot of friends in the village now. He’s good mates with Lisa and some others.

“He’s always ready to do building work, so he could come back at any time.”

He added, perhaps hopefully: “Emmerdale is such a wonderful place to work. The crew are fantastic and the cast are great.

“I’ve worked in lots of places, but this show is one of the best and I’ll miss it.”

John also opened up to the magazine about the impact of Ronnie’s character on viewers: “The response was really quite good, especially among the gay community.

“Not being gay myself, it’s quite an accolade to get those compliments and know you’re portraying it in the right way.

“Lots of older gay people have sent me messages.”

So perhaps the show will consider bringing him back – once Lawrence has gone.

The White patriarch is rumoured to be leaving the show in a coffin after Lachlan turns serial killer and offs his grandfather as his first victim.

But before he departs there’s plenty more drama after he’s set to cause a huge car crash putting lives in danger. As well as Lachlan, Belle Dingle and Victoria Barton could be at risk of losing their lives thanks to Lawrence’s carelessness.

However, he’s not entirely to blame as Robert Sugden has been drugging his drink in order to gain control of Home Farm himself.
