EastEnders legend June Brown signs a new contract

Brilliant news for soap fans...

| Updated:

EastEnders favourite June Brown has signed a new contract with the soap to carry on playing legendary Dot Cotton. Hurrah!

While we might not have seen much of Dot in Walford of late, the Square wouldn’t seem the same without her chain-smoking, advice-giving ways.

June, who has been playing Dot since 1985, has been filming other shows away from Walford – most recently starring in ITV’s ‘100 Years Younger In 21 Days’.

With her brilliant sense of humour, June quickly became a firm favourite with viewers as she tried her hand at bizarre anti-ageing techniques like using snail slime on her face.

June took a six month break from the soap back in 2012 to write her autobiography – but thankfully she returned just a year later.

It has been revealed that her new contract will keep her on the BBC payroll for the foreseeable future according to The Sun.

EastEnders fans will rejoice at the news that there will be plenty more still to come from Dot Cotton.

The character has become something of a national treasure over the years as viewers have watched her battle her way through the trials and tribulations that life has thrown at her.

The 91-year-old actress told Digital Spy: “I’m delighted that EastEnders have allowed me to keep playing Dot whilst also accommodating me to take on other work opportunities.”

Dot might not have her job at the laundrette these days, but with Martin and Sonia Fowler living in her house, as well as Robbie Jackson, it seems she won’t be short of drama in the coming months.

Entertainment Daily! has contacted the EastEnders press office regarding June’s new contract.

EastEnders airs Monday and Friday at 8pm and Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
