EastEnders SPOILER: Jake Wood reveals huge Max Branning drama ahead

His marriage will backfire, he warns.

EastEnders fans were thrilled to bits when villain Max Branning returned to Walford earlier this year.

After a brief period of shock while the popular character insisted he was now a good guy and had turned over a new leaf, it was soon business as usual when he showed his true colours again.

Jake Wood, who plays the master manipulator, has now teased that his character has even more drama ahead…

Particularly concerning his sham marriage to his ex-wife’s sister Rainie.

Talking to Metro.co.uk, the London-born actor explained that the marriage could drastically backfire on him and his plans to get his granddaughter Abi back.

Determined to prove he can provide a suitable home for baby Abi, Max married Rainie to look more stable.

However, behind closed doors, the pair are NOT loved up at all and it’s purely a business relationship.

Now Jake has said that Max shouldn’t underestimate Rainie and promises some big turmoil ahead.

Asked whether his character can ever be redeemed, Jake replied: “Maybe not. Max is trying very hard at the moment to redeem himself.

“On the face of it, he’s married to Rainie and, as far as everyone knows, that’s a real relationship and he got married to her for real reasons. He’s telling everyone that he loves her.

“But Max is paying her to pretend to be his wife. As soon as he gets custody, that’s the end of the deal. But Max being Max, things will always be more complicated.”

Jake also hinted that his dire relationships with his Albert Square neighbours will come back to bite him, too, as he needs character references for the custody battle.

He says: “It’s going to be an uphill struggle for Max. He’s obviously married Rainie because he thinks it will strengthen his case to get back baby Abi. And that’s really Max’s focus for the foreseeable future.

“As we’ve seen with Max when he sets his mind on something he’s very single minded. He’ll do whatever it takes. Marrying Rainie was another example of that.”

But with Rainie more of a loose cannon than Max, can he trust her?
