EastEnders fans suspicious as Max vows to get baby Abi back

Is he really a changed man?

EastEnders revealed a brand new storyline for Max Branning last night (Thursday 26 April), although many viewers had already guessed it…

The former schemer, now apparently a changed man, has vowed to get his granddaughter Abi back.

The BBC soap unleashed a big twist earlier this week when it revealed that Max had married his former sister-in-law Rainie.

And now we know the couple want to fight for custody of his late daughter’s child.

Insisting he’s not the dodgy Max of old, he perhaps proved this when he teamed up with Rainie to stop baby Harley being taken away by his unstable biological parents.

Having safely returned Harley to the Ahmed family, Max took Rainie to meet little Abi – who has spent the last few months in hospital.

The tot was born prematurely in the aftermath of Abi’s fatal accident at Christmas, and Max has now revealed his plans to raise her with his new wife.

“A promise is a promise, alright,” he said to his granddaughter. “I know your great-grandmother Cora has got you today, but soon enough you’re going to be with me. With us.”

However, with the pair currently camping out in the car lot office because they have nowhere to live, it looks like Max might have a battle on his hands…

Will it be easier said than done to prove that they are better guardians for Abi than Cora?

And fans certainly aren’t convinced Max is a reformed character and believe he’s only married Rainie to get custody of the baby.

One tweeted: “See, told ya Max only married Rainie for Baby Abi. Good to see she’s not forgotten.”

Another added: “So max wants to be classed as suitable to have baby abi so he decides to marry a ex junkie who was also a prostitute.”

Not everyone was suspicious of their motives, however, with one saying: “Max and Rainie actually work believably as a couple.”

So is Max a changed man? Will he win custody of baby Abi? And where the heck is Tanya in all this?

All will soon be revealed!
