EastEnders fans in stitches over Sharon Mitchell’s phone gaffe

"It's not 1980!" laughed one viewer

EastEnders bosses are great at dreaming up gripping storylines, but one thing they’re clearly not quite so good at is understanding how technology works.

During last night’s episode, we saw an exasperated Sharon Mitchell (played by Letitia Dean) huffing and puffing up and down her stairs as she received a stream of early-morning prank phone calls.

Every time she got to the phone, the caller had hung up – so back upstairs she went.

However, eagle-eyed viewers were quick to point out that she didn’t need to expend so much effort as her phone was CORDLESS, meaning she could’ve kept it by her side the whole time. Doh!

Poor old Sharon didn’t look best pleased as she trudged down the stairs in her dressing down no fewer than THREE TIMES to pick up the blower.

The house was shrouded in darkness and the poor woman hadn’t even had a chance to do her make-up yet.

On two of those occasions, she didn’t even get to the phone before it rang off. And the third time, she did manage to pick it up, only to find there was no one on the other end.

But fans on Twitter suggested that she could’ve saved herself an awful lot of hassle if she’d taken advantage of the cordless phone’s portable capabilities.

One mocked: “Laughing my socks off – Sharon running up and down the stairs to answer a cordless phone!”

Another added: “Why is Sharon rushing downstairs to answer a cordless phone? Would you not keep it by the bed at night? It’s not 1980!”

And a third chipped in: “Do you think Sharon knows that the landline phone is a mobile and she could take it upstairs with her?!!”

Evidently she didn’t. But to be fair, she does have a lot on her mind at the moment.

She looked pretty spooked as she told Michelle and Louise: “They hung up.” She reckons it’s her stalker Tom harrassing her.

That remains to be seen – but until then, Shaz could do herself a big favour and take her phone to bed with her.
