Dean Gaffney says Costa at work is making him gain weight

He's spending his wages on a caffeine boost

We’ve heard of Costa arriving in Weatherfield since the new Victoria Street set in Corrie unveiled a branch of the high street coffee shop chain earlier in the year, but now it seems like the hot beverage company is causing a stir at EastEnders, too.

Don’t worry – Costa isn’t going to be opening a new store next to the Minute Mart any time soon, coffee drinking is going on such more behind the scenes at EastEnders.

A branch of the coffee chain has opened up at the EastEnders studios in Elstree, and it seems Walford star Dean Gaffney is first in line for his morning coffee!

The actor has admitted to being a bit of a fan of the branded coffee, telling The Mirror: “It’s not good for my bank balance or my belly… but it is nice to go there.”

Dean first appeared as Albert Square’s Robbie Jackson back in 1993, so things have probably changed a bit in the EastEnders canteen since then.

But while he might be keeping himself alter with all the caffeine, Dean also revealed to the publication that he is blanking out his coffee and cake habit with another diet trick.

Apparently eating black grapes is supposed to boost with your brain power, and Dean is using them to help him learn his lines at EastEnders.

“I will try things. Someone said black grapes are good for your brain. It is a muscle and you need to keep it working.

“Now I eat black grapes every other week just to train my brain. I think it works – I’m learning my lines and not mucking up!”

Forget the new branch of Costa, it sounds like they need a grocers in the EastEnders greenroom.

EastEnders airs Monday and Friday at 8pm and Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
