Departing Coronation Street star hints their character could be KILLED OFF

They're leaving the soap in January

| Updated:

Coronation Street actress Debbie Rush has fuelled speculation about how her character Anna Windass will be written out of the soap.

Debbie, who has been walking the cobbles for nine years, has hinted Anna could meet a grisly end when her time is up on the show in January.

Asked whether she would ever consider returning to Corrie, Debbie told Digital Spy: “Well, it would depend on whether Anna is dead or alive!”

The actress said she’d told the scriptwriters not to worry about leaving the door open for her to return if they thought killing her off would be more dramatic.

“I said it was up to the writers to do whatever they think is best for the character.

“Even if the door is shut permanently, I wasn’t bothered either way,” she said.

If Anna is killed off, it could be because she becomes Pat Phelan’s next murder victim.

She’s currently behind bars as he managed to frame her for pushing Seb Franklin off a ladder.

But in upcoming episodes, she’ll collapse and be taken to hospital.

Once there, she will seize an opportunity to escape and go on the run.

But how far will she get? Will she try and take revenge on Phelan or could he shut her up for good?

Debbie said viewers will have to stay tuned to find out, as she teased future exciting scenes between her and Phelan, played by Connor McIntyre, who is also leaving the soap.

She said: “There are more Phelan and Anna scenes to come before Anna goes. My final scenes air at the end of January on screen.”

Debbie said it was a big decision for her to leave after nearly a decade on the soap but she’s now looking forward to moving on to new things.

“I took a really long time to make a decision and I talked about it for about two years before I decided to go,” she said.  “I have been here at Corrie for nine years and have loved every minute, but as an actress, it is time to move on.”

So will she ever be back? Perhaps not if Phelan has anything to do with it!
