Danniella Westbrook and Kerry Katona share frank chat about drug abuse

Former EastEnders star said she's had worst four years of her life

Danniella Westbrook has opened up to Kerry Katona about her drug addiction and how it led to her being sectioned.

The former EastEnders actress gave her most frank interview yet as she shared her story with Kerry, who has also famously battled with drugs, on Wednesday’s Loose Women.

In the pre-recorded chat, Danniella, 44, admitted to the former Atomic Kitten singer she’d had the worst four years of her life.

“Everyone thinks my lowest point was when I got seen with a hole in my nose but my lowest point has been the last four years and not having my daughter in my life, not having certain things in my life,” said Danniella.

“I haven’t dealt with it the right way, I haven’t dealt with it the adult way. I have just used,” she admitted.

The mother-of-two said things became so bad, she considered taking her own life.

She recalled: “I put myself into hospital two years ago, I said to them, ‘I have taken copious amounts of coke, every medicine in the house, drunk alcohol; this, that and the other. And I am still waking up – why? Please section me, I am trying to kill myself’.

“And they sectioned me.”

Danniella continued: “I wanted to die. And I thought what could be the thing that could kill me fast enough that won’t give my kids a lot of shame? And it will be an overdose and it will be because everyone will say, ‘I told you so because she was a coke head.’

“I wrote letters to my kids; I’ve got suicide notes from back then and the reason I said is ‘so you can have a better life’.”

The actress said she is feeling better now having admitted to her problems and sought help.

“Every day isn’t a struggle but every day I remember I am an addict,” she said.

Danniella has a daughter, Jody, 16, and son Kai, 21.

She said Kai has “put his life on hold” to look after her, and her experience has put him completely off drugs.

“Kai absolutely hates coke, he hates anything to do with it, he hates cocaine, he hates the whole addiction process, he detests it,” she told Kerry. “He detests it because it’s nearly killed his mum.”

The pair spoke about why they started using drugs, with both agreeing it had nothing to do with being part of the showbiz industry.

Danniella said her reason was due to being abused as child, while mum-of-five Kerry said her reason was a problematic upbringing.

Danniella said she agreed to share her story with Kerry on Loose Women as: “I can talk to Kerry and she won’t judge me.”

She became tearful when the show replayed their chat before speaking to them both live.

Danniella said she is now attending counselling sessions for addicts and she has a sponsor to support her trying to stay clean.
