Dancing On Ice star admits skating through painful injury

Ouch!

Dancing On Ice’s Candice Brown has admitted she’s still struggling with a painful injury picked up during rehearsals.

The former Great British Bake Off winner took to the ice on Sunday night for her debut performance of the series.

You’d never have known the star was still recovering from sore ribs as she glided around the rink to the Etta James classic At Last.

Speaking on Lorraine via video link today, the star confessed it’s been a case of “gritting my teeth and getting on with it” as her painful injury continues to heal.

Lorraine Kelly said: “You had a really bad injury, didn’t you? How are the bruises?”

Replying, Candice said: “One of the things they say at the beginning is: you will get bruises!

“I fall over on my own feet anyway so it was guaranteed on the ice.

“My ribs really suffered.”

Candice admitted she put off seeking help because she was worried Dancing On Ice bosses may suggest she withdraw from the show.

But eventually the pain got too much to ignore.

“I thought I’d keep it to myself because I didn’t know how it works and thought if I said anything they might say I couldn’t compete,” she said.

“But then I sneezed and thought I’d pass out.”

Candice said that prompted her to text pro skating partner Matt Evers and confess she had “really hurt herself” and needed medical treatment.

Thankfully, she’s now on the mend, although it’s still sore when skating.

“I saw the physio yesterday, who is amazing, and I felt a lot better,” she said.

“But it’s kind of like gritting my teeth and getting on with it.”

Sadly for Candice, her Dancing On Ice debut ended up with her in the bottom position on the scoreboard, after she and Matt won just 13 points for their efforts.

Matt has insisted Candice was “undermarked” saying that although she’s not as technically proficient as other celebrities yet, she still completed her routine with no errors and should have been recognised for that.

Candice and Matt will compete in the first skate off against the couple who finish last in next Sunday’s show.
