The big announcement about Antony’s involvement was made after Monday’s episode of the soap.

Standing in front of the Rovers Return, an excited and nervous looking Antony joked he “better get my skates on” as he needed lots of practice before hitting the ice.

Needless to say, his fans were pretty excited about the news!

One tweeted: “Looks like I have my winner for next year’s Dancing on Ice! Team Antony all the way!”

Another said: “Aw brilliant I love him I bet he will be good.”

And a third added: “Can’t wait to see you on Dancing On Ice. I bet you’ll be a wonderful contestant. I wish you the best of luck but main thing’s to enjoy it!”

Others, meanwhile, warned Antony to be careful on the ice!

One told him: “God you’re brave! Broke my wrist ice skating with the kids! Good luck.”

Antony’s Corrie co-star Brooke was the first celebrity contestant officially confirmed for the revamped 2018 series.

Appearing on This Morning via video link to confirm her participation, Holly Willoughby joked to Brooke: “We’ve had to unveil you first as you are the worst at keeping secrets!”

Explaining why she signed for the show, Brooke said: “I love a challenge! I’m most impressed that next year I’ll be able to go [skating] with the girls and be like ‘I can do this, I can do that’ and they’ll be holding onto the sides.”

She added: “I think I can dance, but I might be a bit like a bull in a china shop really!

“I’ve watched the show for years. I’ve always thought it would be so good to do it, and learn such a massive skill and dress in those outfits and have my hair all done. I’m so excited.”

The line-up for the new series of Dancing On Ice has been slowly revealed over the past week.
