Countdown’s Rachel Riley gets the giggles as board spells out rude message

Some viewers were startled by Rachel's saucy confession afterwards

Blushing Rachel Riley got her knickers in a twist yesterday as the Countdown letters ended up arranged to spell out a cheeky message.

And despite some viewers joking the 32-year-old was making an X-rated confession about her working conditions, the former Strictly star took the rude result in her stride and blamed it on a twist of fate.

“The letters board’s trolling again,” Rachel tweeted innocently after the Channel 4 show had aired.

She continued, attaching a snap of a seven-letter word with another shorter one above it made up from the remainder two letters: “Trust me, I would never go to work with…”

Host Nick Hewer, however, seemed to miss the naughty implication of placing “NO” in front of the offering for the round.

And although Susie Dent and Len Goodman in Dictionary Corner also came up with “PANTIES”, fleeting grins from both of them suggested they had picked up on the smutty joke.

“We got panties as well!” said Len.

“Great, so we’ve got two panties,” replied Nick.

Viewers watching at home were most amused – and one had a very good point in how Rachel could have ensured the board came off as much less rude.

Yesterday’s bawdy incident is by no means the only time the Countdown board has turned up a risqué word or phrase – indeed, the show has quite a history for it.
