Corrie’s Lucy Fallon scared of being axed by new producer

Actress has revealed that the cast are 'on edge'...

Coronation Street’s Lucy Fallon has revealed that there is a sense of unease amongst cast as the new producer, Iain MacLeod, picks up his new role at the soap this summer.

The actress told The Sun’s Fabulous Magazine: “Everyone’s on edge thinking: ‘Am I going to get killed off?”

Despite the fact Coronation Street is currently on fire, winning awards left, right and centre over its rivals, it seems there is still room for the people working there to worry.

Lucy won Best Actress and Best Dramatic Performance at the recent British Soap Awards, but that doesn’t mean she’s not worried that she might get caught up in Iain’s new shake up as producer.

The 22 year-old revealed: “It’s exciting to see what kind of things he’s going to do, but it is normal to feel nervous, I think. People were like that when Kate Oates came in.

“There have been articles in the papers saying he’s killing off the younger cast. People get a bit like: ‘What’s going to happen?’ because he can come in and do whatever he wants.

“I’m contracted until next February and I’m definitely not planning on leaving anytime soon. But then they might just push me out!”

It’s inevitable that the cast are going to be feeling worried as it’s not unusual for a new producer to join a show and make some changes, but with things going the way they are for Lucy, surely her character is safe?

Bethany Platt is yet again at the forefront of a hard-hitting storyline this summer as the show revisits her grooming ordeal that hit our screens last year.

Lucy found her character the focus of a much-praised storyline when Bethany became the target of evil predator Nathan Curtis.

The storyline has been opened up again with the arrival of newcomer Kayla, the new waitress at Speed Daal.

It turns out that Kayla is hiding a huge secret.

She is actually Neil Cliffton’s daughter, the corrupt policeman who turned out to be working alongside Nathan, and she’s looking for revenge for her dad’s imprisonment.

With storylines like that in her future, surely Lucy is as safe as houses.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
