Coronation Street actress Bhavna Limbachia warns of danger ahead for Rana

Her family will stop at nothing to keep her and Kate apart

Coronation Street fans were delighted when Rana Nazir and Kate Connor pledged to make a go of their relationship.

They are on the verge of going public with their secret love affair but, like all soap romances, it was never going to be plain sailing for the couple – and there are some major dramas around the corner.

Speaking to the Radio Times, Bhavna Limbachia – who plays Rana – hints at these troubles, but also reveals her hopes to see ‘Kana’ survive and maybe even get married – big fat Asian gay wedding style!

Asked by the magazine whether she thinks the two characters will be together in a year’s time, the actress answered: “I really do hope so. It wouldn’t be Coronation Street without there being some hurdles in the way.

“But they have a strong following – the #Kana fans are amazing. So it would be nice for Kate and Rana to be together. What we’d like is a big fat Asian gay wedding.”

However, Bhavna also teases the troubles ahead…

She said: “There could well be danger ahead for Rana. Her parents have set up this financial arrangement with Zeedan and think they’ve solved that problem.

“However, it doesn’t go to plan. They do find out about Rana and Kate and take drastic action.”

Scenes recently filmed on location suggest that Rana will be abducted by her own parents. The strict Muslims plan to send her to Pakistan in a bid to keep her away from Kate.

Discussing prejudice towards gay people, Bhavna added: “It’s still very much taboo in the Asian community, so it needs to be addressed and highlighted.

“It’s nice to raise awareness. And Coronation Street is great at putting these stories together and making a huge difference.”

Rana’s affair with Kate, played by Faye Brookes, first began in October 2017.

After months of flirtations, they finally got together in December.

But will it be a happy ending for the lovestruck pair?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
