Coronation Street fans were left shell-shocked after tonight’s late-night episode when Anna Windass made an unexpected return to the cobbles.

Fans believed Anna was still in prison after being sent down earlier this year for a crime she didn’t commit, set up by Pat Phelan.
But she made a shock return tonight when she turned up at the builder’s yard, where her son Gary seemed to be expecting her.
Viewers couldn’t see who was sneaking up on Gary and girlfriend Sarah Platt after Phelan had locked them in the yard. It turned out to be a friendly face when Gary said: “Well you took your time,” and Anna stepped out of the shadows.
Clocking a terrified looking Sarah with a hammer in her hand she said: “I’m guessing it hasn’t gone to plan then?”
Meanwhile Phelan was busy terrorising his wife Eileen and daughter Nicola as he demanded to see his newly-born grandson, Zack.
Clearly becoming more and more unhinged, Phelan started raving at Nicola, quoting bible references and comparing himself to King Herod, who killed baby boys.
The new mum stood in front of her baby boy, refusing to let her biological father touch or even see him, telling him that if he wanted the baby, he’d have to kill her first.
Her words didn’t seem to bother Pat though as he cocked the hammer on his shotgun and said: “I didn’t want it to go this way.”
Unknown to Phelan however, Seb Franklin was upstairs when he arrived and snuck down before trying to get the gun off of him.
However Seb’s plan didn’t work out quite as he plotted, with Phelan being about ten times his size, and there was a scuffle over the gun which ended with Eileen falling and hitting her head on the floor.
As a frantic Anna – along with Sarah and Gary – ran to No.11, Anna screaming: “I’m not going to let him get away with it again,” a gunshot sounded out around the Street.
And fans were left thrilled with the action and Anna – played by Debbie Rush – returning, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts.

Coronation’s Street big week reaches its climax tomorrow night at 9pm when a deranged Phelan crashes Michelle and Robert’s wedding in the Bistro.
He takes Michelle hostage, but will anyone make it out alive?
