Corrie character to ‘return from the dead’ this Christmas

Viewers were gutted about favourite's exit

It seems Coronation Street scriptwriters will be taking inspiration from the Biblical story of Easter rather than Christmas this festive season.

They will resurrect a character who will soon be killed off in a shock twist.

Fans of the soap were shocked on Monday when the show dropped the massive spoiler that Gary Windass will die via their Twitter account.

They shared exclusive pictures of his friends and family reacting to the devastating news after learning of his death overseas.

It will leave a number of characters in turmoil, including Nicola who is secretly carrying his baby after their one-night stand.

However now it seems that isn’t going to be the only surprise in store as Gary will “return from the death” at Christmas.

A source told The Sun that Gary being killed in a car explosion in Ukraine is all “a ruse” and he will be back to walk the cobbles again.

They told the publication: “To unexpectedly bring him back is a huge twist. Fans will love it.”

Or will they?

Some have already reacted with anger to the spoiler pictures announcing Gary’s death before such scenes have aired being shared on Twitter.

“A devastated Sarah finally accepts the news of Gary’s death, Luke confronts Rana and things get worse for Robert,” the pictures were captioned as Corrie teased their forthcoming episodes.

Viewers were gutted and confused to hear of Gary’s death, both because they love the character played by Mikey North since 2008, and because they felt the show had made a massive mistake by revealing his fate prematurely.

“You shouldn’t have posted such a big spoiler so soon,” one wrote while another said they’d just “ruined it for everyone” by disclosing the shock departure.

But it seems it’s all part of the build-up to their explosive Christmas storyline and there will be plenty more surprises in store despite the spoilers.

If Gary does return from the dead it won’t be the first time this has happened in soapland. Over on EastEnders, Kathy Beale returned in similar circumstances. Her family was told she’d been killed in a car crash in South Africa only for the character, played by Gillian Taylforth, to come back announcing it had all been a scam.

In her case viewers had to wait decades for her return whereas Gary could be home for Christmas.
