The veteran character, who has been in the soap for 23 years, donned a disguise in a bid to track down and expose conman Lewis Archer.

Attending a seance by clairvoyant Rosemary Piper, Roy attempted to avoid suspicion in a Motorhead baseball cap and dark sunglasses.

And Roy (David Neilson) playing detective had TV viewers in fits of hysterics.

We watched as vigilante Roy set about proving that Lewis and Rosemary were partners in crime in her psychic scam to con people out of money.

But it was his genius disguise that had the viewers in stitches.

One tweeted: “Never seen Roy Cropper looking so cool. Lol!”

In later scenes, when Roy discovered it was Lewis who had been feeding Rosemary information about the residents of Weatherfield, a determined Roy took Lewis down…

Yes, readers, it was hilarious!

One fan wrote: “Roy making a citizens arrest is the best thing I’ve seen this week, gan on Roy Lad!”

Another wrote: “Yasss Roy’s a pure legend… that’s the funniest scene in a long time.”

One bemused watcher wrote: “I demand a Roy Cropper detective spin off show please.”

Another even compared Corrie to Love Island for entertainment!

We’re not sure Roy would appreciate the comparison though…

Sadly, Roy’s heroics were all for nothing as Audrey took pity on her ex-lover (played by Nigel Havers) and let him go before the police could arrive to arrest the fraudster.

But is this the beginning of Roy Cropper’s new career as a sleuth?
