Nicola Thorp appears to have confirmed she has left Coronation Street for good.

The actress, who played Pat Phelan’s daughter Nicola Rubinstein, was seen leaving Weatherfield along with Eileen Grimshaw and baby Zack in a taxi.

However, after the teary scenes that aired last night (Wednesday 13 June), fans were reluctant to believe they’d really left for a new life in Bristol.

After an evening of speculation, Nicola posted an emotional message to her 25,100 followers on Twitter.

She wrote: “Thanks to the cast and crew and everyone at Coronation Street for making the cobbles feel like home this past year.

“I’m lucky to call you my friends.”

She also had time to remember her fans, adding: “Thanks to the audience and fans for all the love and support. From this Nicola (and the other one) see you later, Weatherfield.”

Her followers responded with heartfelt messages back, with one writing: “VERY disappointed Nicola is leaving.”

Another pleaded: “Please dont say its the last we have seen of you!!!! Was getting atached to Nicola and Gary together.”

A third typed: “Can’t believe you’ve left u were a breath of fresh air on the cobbles come back soon pls xx.”

While Nicola’s had a very torrid time of it onscreen recently, her real-life is much more content – she is dating Corrie co-star Charlie de Melo, who plays Imran Habeeb.

She’s also a vocal supporter of women’s right, recently jumping to the defence of Emmerdale star Isobel Steele when she was criticised for ‘not flashing flesh’.

Nicola also argued with Piers Morgan about ‘red carpet sexism’ when she appeared on Good Morning Britain.

Something tells us this isn’t the last we’ll see of Nicola. We’d love to see her in the jungle… ITV, are you listening?
