Coronation Street’s Lucy Fallon hits back at criticism of Bethany’s lap-dancing story

It's a necessary journey for her character

A rather shocking secret about Bethany Platt was exposed on Coronation Street earlier this week, as her PC boyfriend Craig discovered that she is working at a lap-dancing club.

It came as a big surprise to him, who couldn’t understand why she would choose to put herself in such a vulnerable position after what she went through with Nathan.

He issued his fragile girlfriend an ultimatum: finish at the club, or they are done.

Bethany was annoyed that he would make her choose and explained that she needed to be doing it.

The teenager was frustrated that he couldn’t understand it from her point of view – men are paying to look at her, but they can’t touch.

She has control – something that Nathan took away from her.

Some viewers have also struggled with the plot, but Lucy Fallon – who plays the 17-year-old – has defended the developments.

Speaking to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, she explained:

“It would have been unrealistic to just leave it, for her to just move on, to make her happy.

“Whether the lap dancing is the right thing to do, it’s her journey, she has to go through it.”

Lucy was joined by her co-star Rob Mallard, who plays Daniel.

He confirmed the rumours that his equally troubled character will find love with an older woman.

Carla Connor, to be precise! Phil let rip with who who it was going to be, and Rob admitted he was right.

“Yeah it’s Carla. She is working her way through the Barlows,” he joked.

He added that he was pleased to see the speculation had already been well-received from fans online, saying:

“I wasn’t too sure how it would go over but people seem keen.”
