Coronation Street’s Georgia Taylor on Toyah Battersby’s secret sadness

Just when we thought it was safe to put the tissues away...

Georgia Taylor has revealed that emotional scenes lay ahead for her character in Coronation Street.

The actress, 38, admits that Corrie fave Toyah Battersby has been focusing all her energies on Eva Price’s baby who she plans to adopt.

Instead, she should have been grieving for the baby she lost with the surrogate mum earlier this year.

Soap fans will know that Toyah and Peter Barlow agreed to use a surrogate after struggling to conceive a baby naturally.

However, unbeknownst to Peter, the surrogate lost the baby – leaving Toyah heartbroken.

So when Eva confided in her about terminating her own baby (with Aidan O’Connor), Toyah suggested a secret pact that she could keep the baby instead…

But even this could go awry, as Eva seems to be beginning to have doubts about giving away the baby…

In an interview with Inside Soap, Georgia admits her character has never dealt with the loss of her first baby.

Georgia explained: “I think what’s actually really sad about it – and this will be dealt with later down the line – is that Toyah hasn’t properly grieved for the baby that she’s lost.

“The surrogate miscarried Toyah and Peter’s biological child, and Toyah’s just thrown herself into this crazy plan with Eva. I don’t think she’s really confronted her grief, so there’s a lot of stuff that still needs to be resolved.”

Asked how she reacted when she first found out about the baby pact with Eva, Georgia laughed: “I thought it was absolutely bonkers! But Toyah is in quite a vulnerable place right now, because having a baby is all she’s ever wanted.

“The thing with soaps is that the drama comes out of characters making decisions that aren’t rational and aren’t what you would expect.

“And I don’t think any rational person is going to think that this could ever work – it’s quite a hare-brained scheme by anyone’s standards!”

Eva is carrying Aiden’s baby, who she is still in love with, leading many to ponder whether she’ll go through with the secret deal after all.

And if she does break her pact with Toyah, how will Peter react to the news about Jacqui’s miscarriage and the fact that Toyah has kept it from him?
