Coronation Street’s Gary Windass ‘risks losing his son’ because of Pat Phelan

Actor Mikey North teases explosive showdown

Dramatic scenes to air next week will show Pat Phelan’s much-antipicated return to Weatherfield.

The super-villain will be hunted down and taken hostage by a vengeful Gary Windass, who has recently come to suspect that Pat isn’t dead after all…

And now, actor Mikey North reveals that his character Gary’s actions could have devastating consequences not just for the residents of Weatherfield, but for himself personally.

In fact, Mikey has warned that Gary “risks losing his son” by bringing Pat back to the cobbles.

In an interview with Mirror.co.uk, the 31-year-old Yorkshire-born star explains why Gary decides to drive Pat back to Weatherfield after finding him in a caravan park in North Wales.

He said: “It doesn’t make any sense, does it? But this is always what he seems to get himself into.

“Gary basically gets wind that Phelan is still in North Wales, so he tracks him down to a caravan park there and he thinks it’s a bright idea to bring it back to Weatherfield and lock him up in the builder’s yard.

“So that’s how [Pat] ends up coming back.”

Admitting that Gary’s actions are reckless, Mikey reveals the consequences will be far-reaching.

He continued: “He’s put Sarah in danger for one and also everyone else on the street really by bringing Phelan back. So he’s got a lot to answer for.”

He added: “Just by putting Nicola in danger he risks losing his son, which he doesn’t want to do. He wants to be in his son’s life so he’ll try and be there as much as possible.”

It’s only fitting that Gary is heavily involved in Pat’s final comeuppance after seeing through him from the very beginning.

They first clashed in 2014 when Gary punched Phelan for making inappropriate advances towards his mum.

Fans don’t yet know who will be targeted by Pat when he escapes and goes berserk on the cobbles, but we do know that Gary survives the ordeal as Mikey has signed a contract for another year on the soap.

Coronation Street airs every weekday next week at 9pm on ITV.
