Speaking on Friday’s episode of This Morning, she said: “Before we did the sepsis storyline, I wasn’t familiar with it.

“But then my friend got it, she was pregnant and she got it. And I was doing the storyline at the time. And I’m thinking, ‘you’re pregnant’, and it could be this or it could be that.

“It’s really scary. Really scary. We just want to get it right. Everybody’s story is different, but we want it to be right. Corrie is a massive platform and we’re here to raise awareness.”

Brooke also revealed that Sophie feels horribly guilty about Jack’s illness, saying: “He was under her care. He’s had an accident. She blames herself.”

In recent scenes, Jack stayed off school after telling his sister Sophie that he wasn’t feeling very well.

Little did she know, he had contracted sepsis from a graze on his knee, and he was later found collapsed on the stairs.

He was rushed to hospital and his shocked father Kevin was told the next 24 hours were crucial for Jack’s survival.

The schoolboy now faces having his foot amputated in horrifying upcoming episodes.

Actress Brooke, who is dating footballer Kean Bryan in real life, also teased a future romance for Sophie.

Asked by hosts Rylan Clark-Neal and Amanda Holden if Sophie’s ever going to find love, Brooke replied: “I hope so. There is a potential love interest for Sophie later in the summer.”
