This Morning fans were delighted when Coronation Street stars Faye Brookes and Bhavna Limbachia joined Phil and Holly on the sofas for a good old chat about Kana’s future.
As fans of the ITV soap know, their characters Kate Connor and Rana Nazir, have been through a tricky time of late – falling for each other then embarking on an affair because Rana is married.
Their secret came exploding out a couple of weeks ago when Kate told Rana’s husband Zeedan that she was the person his wife had been sleeping with.
Zeedan then outed Rana to her own devout Muslim parents, revealing she’d been unfaithful and that it had been with another woman.
Bhavna spoke about how she talked things over with her mum before embarking on the controversial storyline.
She said: “I spoke to my mum about it this as obviously coming from an Asian background, I didn’t know how she was going to react and what her opinion was.
“So I sat my mum down and I said ‘Mum, my character’s turning gay, I’m going to have to kiss a woman on screen, how do you feel about that?’
“I explained to her that this is what’s happening, this is what people are going through and she was shocked that in the Asian community, even in 2018, and she said ‘If you’re going to help people, then you’ve got my full support.”
Naaaaaaaw.
The appearance also sent Twitter into a frenzy as This Morning showed an exclusive clip of Kate and Rana declaring their love for each other.
They then shared a kiss, which was witnessed by Zeedan. Oh dear.
Fans flooded the site with messages of praise for the actresses for raising awareness.
